Android Go: the disappearance of the OS aimed at low-end devices.

One of the most common thoughts has been that Android Go was an equivalent to Pure Android.

Android Go is an operating system announced in 2017 that offers fluidity, functionality and stability to low-end and ultra-cheap devices. Its launch was made together with the "Oreo" version of the popular OS, therefore, the audience thought that this new version was Android Go, but it wasn't.

Just as this lightweight operating system was developed, designed for devices with a maximum of 2GB of RAM; the "Go" versions of all the Google applications that we normally use almost daily were also developed, such as: Google Go, Gmail Go, Maps Go, YouTube Go, etc. Although the latter is expected to disappear in August this year as well as its photo gallery application which recently changed its name from "Gallery Go" to "Gallery" simply.

Although Google is removing the "Go" from these applications, that does not mean that they will stop being light and optimized. The applications stay, the only thing that goes is the name.

This is not something new, since previously "Google Files" was also "Go", until it stopped being. While we wait for the launch of "Android 13 Go" we see the disappearance of "Go" in apps, which makes us ask ourselves one question;

Will Google abandon its commitment to this version of its operating system or has it simply decided to rename its applications?

A very real possibility is that Google is terminating this ultra-light version of Android in view of the fact that, today, the devices are increasing their specifications and the existence of a separate version with such specific applications no longer makes much sense.

This is what is known so far, for now we will have to wait to see if after the launch of "Android 13" comes "Android 13 Go".
